Follow Karthik's idea..The only solution for your problem is to use VARIABLE for your date object..

In addition to his suggestion, if user only wanted to enter 1 month and report should display last 6 months based on the entered month then you need to use REPLACEMENT PATH variable..You may find several docs about it, just search in this forum or google..
